Toyota Prius Hybrid

This is so not me..... I had never blogged about cars before. But today I just can't resist it. Besides, cars ARE boy's toys. *grins*

Everyone has their dream car....I remember, my 10 year old cousin, once told me his dream car is a Ferrari....and I thought to myself, does this pea-size boy knows what the heck is a Ferrari?? And it would cost him a fortune to get one?? The embarassing thing is.....he's 10 and he knows more cars than me! Bring him down the highway....and he'll name you all sort of cars, from Nissan Fair Lady to BMW whatever-series.....Beats me! I can't even tell the various models of Honda cars.....they all look the same (to me that is)!!!

Usually, one's dream car is those that will either cost them half a million to a million or 2 Ringgit....But why?? Wouldn't that cost you an arm and a leg to maintain it?? What about the yearly insurance fees?? The more expensive your car is, the more insurance you need to pay....Hmm.... But then again, if they got the wealth to get one of those cars, they would probably have the money to maintain it.....Hmm....good for them then. I, personally, don't bother about how expensive the car will be...... Yes, it might elevate my status....but so what? As if you gonna sleep and live in your car.....you just use it to move around, just like any other cars!

I am a sucker for technology....and the car that appeals to me most is hybrid cars from Toyota. Not that I have a choice, I mean, Toyota is the ONLY company that produces hybrids in Malaysia. And if you would have noticed, recently, they have came out with a new model called Toyota 3rd Generation Prius which I think is pretty COOL!!!

Some of its super cool features include:

1. Solar Roof

~When Prius is parked in direct sunlight, available solar panels can power a fan which brings in cooler outside air, cooling the cabin

close to ambient outside temperature. When you are within 30 yards from the car, you can use a Remote Air Conditioning System Control to cool off the interior to preset temperature without starting off the engine!

2. EV/Eco/Power modes

~In the available EV mode, Prius operates silently on the battery alone for up to 1/2 mile. In Eco mode, gas pedal sensitivity is reduced for better fuel economy. In Power mode, the gas pedal becomes more responsive for a richer driving experience. Talk about saving money on petrol AND the environment! Mother Nature will be so proud of me! XD

3. Intelligent Parking Assist

~uses Ultrasonic sensors in front bumper to detect parking space. An image of the parking space appears on the screen with a box indicating the target positon of the vehicle. Once driver approves target position, Prius steers and virtually drives by itself! Only requiring soft braking by the driver to stop the vehicle in the desired parking space. WOW! Ladies and lousy drivers will LOVE this feature!

4. Control panels on the steering wheel

~Driver can adjust temperature, audio mode, volume and trip data. Oh! And have i mentioned that Prius comes with a GPS too?

Now I can't wait to earn my own salary and get my hands on a Hybrid. Hopefully by then, there will be more super 'chun' technological advanced cars!! Maybe one that need not run on petrol? XD

At 8.09pm today will be the once in a lifetime 20:09, 20/09/2009!!! Hahaha.....oh-kay.....that is so random... But that's because I can't think of a better way to start off my 2 months blogging hiatus.

Sigh.....busy lah...... actually....not really.... even I had the time, I didn't thought of blogging nowadays.... Hmmm.....maybe I'm just lazy to think what to write....Oh! Maybe there's just nothing interesting to blog about...... WHAT?? Don't we ALL have this kind of moments before?? >.<

Not that I had anything interesting NOW! I just feel left out for keeping my blog inactive after so long.... All I did for the past 2 months was just reading updates on other blogs I followed.

Hmmm.....what to write about leh? Studies? Erm...well.... like you probably would have knew, 2nd year Dentistry involves a lot of lab sessions. And when I say lab, i don't mean those lab which they do weird experiments on animals and each other. Neither it is looking at boring specimens or grow microbial cultures on agar plates..... well yes....we DO have those kind of sessions. But it's just not an everyday routine. What is: Is Prosthetic and Operative Technique sessions. Yes.... dental related lab sessions. I'm constructing my very own 1st full denture for Prosthetic!!! *beams* Well, it's not complete yet....just half way through. Only done with the allignment of teeth. Who would have thought constructing dentures need soooooo much work!! A total of painstaking 18 steps for the final product. Nevertheless, I still enjoy it. Here, take a look

Operative Technique on the other hand, has caused me backache and neck distortion. LOL!! Ok ok....I exaggerated.... :P

But seriously....I think I'll get hunch back in 10 years time. Imagine, tilting your head almost 90 degree to get a clear vision in the bloody patient's mouth! If only, human jaws can be dismantled and reattached with a click. It'll make our job a WHOLE LOT easier!!! *prays hard*

And oh.....do you know, Dentistry is a very expensive course??? If it was not subsidised by the government or if you were to do this course in the private sector or overseas, Dentistry would probably be the most expensive course available! Why do i say so eventhough I am already doing it in a public university? Well, yes....we might be subsidised for tuition fees....but mind you, we are expected to buy certain tools and materials for our personal use! And they are NOT cheap!!! Till date I've spend almost RM100 to buys (subsidised) burrs, face masks, gloves, etc... and even considering to pay RM180 for a rubber bowl that I lost.... Sigh....so guys, next time, when I graduate to become a real dentist, understand a bit lah on the exorbitant price that I'll charge......need to get back whatever money I've spent during my undergraduate years. Hehe... :P

A lil' bit on my personal life.....lately, I've been quite active in working out. I've been jogging 6 km (around the whole university) at least twice a week and goes for Taekwondo training every Tuesday and Thursday night.... Don't know why....but I think I need to improve on my stamina a bit more so that i'll keep myself fresh from the long hours of practical and studies nowadays. That explains my better muscle tone in my legs!! It's frim and toned! Very sexy indeed!! LOL!!!! *can't help it guys* :P

Ok....I wonder if you guys are curious about my buddy? If you had read about my post on orientation, i did mentioned about buddy line system. And to give that post a better ending, here's a picture of me (bald) and my lil' buddy, Ang Shir Inn. Oh yeah......I finally got myself to be bald too..... :P Many people were shocked , and of course i got teased saying that I just got out from prison... -_-". But it was a good experience, now that I am famous in my college and faculty.....they'll finally know that William Choo is the tall guy with bald head. Damn! I'm good in getting attentions! XD (Mission accomplished!)

Hmm...I guess I've babbled enough for today....it's the first day of Raya today. So Selamat Hari Raya guys! I'm waiting to go for an open house tonight and eat myself silly. Am currently on a one week break. This time, I'm satisfying my cravings on all types of food. It's weird, but since I came back on Friday, I just had to eat a lot of food!!! Every now and then, I got this urge to eat those things that I didn't had for a long time. Oh dear.....think I'm going to gain some weight this holiday! :S

LASIK me perfect

17th July 2009, marks the date that changed my life after more than 10 years of blurred vision. I had been wearing glasses since I was in Primary 6 and from then, my near-sightedness became increasingly worse. I have changed glasses after glasses, I can still remember my first pair of glasses were made out of plastic and have the resemblence of the one that Harry Potter uses! Slowly, my fashion sense became better as I grow older, I start to go for semi-framed glasses, then finally frameless glasses and into sunglasses design. Contact lens too was part of my life during Secondary 4. I used to dread the idea of stucking something into my eyes and wearing it till it dries them out. But I got used to it, because of vanity. I want to look better without being "four-eyed". Whenever I go for sports, my favourite include swimming and martial arts, I would face the difficulty of seeing things clearly for I was force to remove my glasses so that I can put on my goggles for the former and avoid being crushed for the latter. And now that I am pursuing dentistry, I would require to don a face mask and the problem with face mask is that, whenever you breathe, the water vapour will rise from the mask and fog up your glasses! So, I have to stop intermittently whenever I'm doing something.

And so I made up my mind, to get my eyes fixed for good. No more glasses, no more contact lens, I am going for LASIK. I had had LASIK in mind for quite sometime already. It was in 2008, that I stumbled across a booth fair in my own campus for LASIK and the price caught my attention. Before this, I thought LASIK was very very expensive and I wouldn't afford it until I begin to earn enough when I start to work, which will be forever! But it wasn't so. This particular centre was offering LASIK for the price of RM2,888 for both eyes! Now, I'm not saying it is damn cheap but it is the cheapest in town, and I personally think it is very reasonable (not that I am filthy rich, NO!). Hey! Where else can you get prices like that now???

It took me a year long hiatus before I finally went for the operation yesterday. Money was of course the main problem. Eventhough RM2,888 was reasonable, but my parents don't have enough for me, let alone it being cosmetic purposeses! But recently, my mom had had a small fortune and she finally gave me the green light to go for it, considered it as my 21st birthday gift since it is around the corner, she said. I love her for this! :D

So..........at 5.30pm, I was at the centre (oh by the way, the place is called Advance Vision Eye Specialist Centre, the eye surgeon by the name of Dr Yeoh Phee Liang is a graduate from Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Check out their website if you are interested: http://www.advancevision.net.my/index.htm ), waiting anxiously to be called into the operation theatre. My vision was being checked and my cornea thinkness was being measured electronically just to be sure that the results were the same with the 1st checking I did last year. Then, they put on a surgical gown on me and a surgical cap too. Eye solutions which are local aneasthesia I suppose, were dropped into my eyes. My eyes went numb almost immediately. Then.....the operation begins!

The operation theatre was simple enough, just a really long bed-like machine with laser at the top of the head rest area. As soon as I was being laid on it, my head was rotated towards the laser, directly underneath it. Now with both my eyes wide open, I was told to stare at a blinking red light, which is obviously the laser!

Honestly, this is the most intimidating part. I mean, you know damn well that THAT red light is laser and you were asked to stare AT it! It's like asking you to step into a fire knowing damn well that the it will burn you alive! You get what I mean? I was scared man! But the doctor warned me to NOT move a muscle as the initial step is the most crucial of the entire LASIK surgery.

My eyelids were taped prior to that and a retractable spring was placed to keep my eyes wide open. Then, solutions were dropped on it, something glasslike was put on top of my eyeball. Then I felt something pushing against my it, loud noise were heard, felt something moved on my eye, my cornea was cut open and the doctor manipulated it for awhile. (This DOES feel scary and uncomfortable. Not painful but it IS uncomfortable.) Laser was then shot, zapping sounds were heard, I smell something burning but amazingly this has NO FEELING at all! Not a single sensation! :D

Finally, my eye was washed with isotonic solution and the doctor dropped some antibiotic into the completed eye before continueing with the other eye using the same procedures. The whole surgery lasted about 15 minutes and I was discharged after taking 2 paracetamol and closing my eyes for 5 minutes! My vision then was 50% cleared.

Immediately after returning to my hostel, I tried to sleep because the anaesthetic was wearing off and I start to feel very uncomfortable and in fact, slight pain in both my eyes. They were slight bloodly liquid oozing out from the corner of my eyes. I took a sleeping pill that the doctor prescribed and had a 10-hour sleep, with protective eye shields on of course, for fear of rubbing my eyes when I am asleep.

Today as I woke up, my vision is 90% clear! I am seeing things in a almost 20/20 vision without my glasses!!! It was like dreaming! I can see fine prints and car number plates clearly several metres away now, and people faces at the end of the hall!!! Now I blog my experience prior to my post-operative checkup. In half an hour time I will be returning to the centre for a review. Now I can proudly say that I can see clearly without my glasses anymore! I have done it, so when will you?? :)

The Prophercy

I don't intend to scare anyone with today's post. But I just couldn't resist the urge to blog about this after reading the newspaper this morning. Years ago, I stumbled across a little booklet, a Buddhist booklet to be exact. I can neither recall the name of the book now nor find it in my house. I remembered clearly that I'd read it before. It has a Buddhist monk in a sitted position with his index finger pointing up as though giving a warning as its cover image; the monk, obviously bald, was wearing a typical orange robe and no, no glasses.....oh wait, or maybe there was. Oh dear....*scratches head* Sigh.....just where in the world did I misplace it?

Anyway, the booklet somehow mentioned that mankind will be inflicted with a disease more deadly than AIDS and cancer. He said that there would be a certain kind of air-borne Influenza that spreads from human to human through simple gestures like hand shake. At that point, I was of course, sceptical.

"Pah!! Influenza is more deadly than AIDS??? How can a simple flu and cough kills a person?!" was what I was thinking then.

But with the current pandemic A(H1N1) spread worldwide, I can't stop thinking that maybe this is what he meant. Is this the influenza he talks about in his book? Whatever he said, was it a prophercy? I don't know...... All I know is that the latest updates of H1N1 is worrisome. With more than 75,000 cases around the world (112 cases in Malaysia alone; while in Singapore 701 cases) and no way of slowing, if not stopping it; no doubt this is a call, a warning for mankind after Influenza H5N1 (a.k.a. Bird Flu) 6 years ago.

Drama series to spend the remaining holidays...

3 more days....and we'll be back to uni, going through stressfull times with studies again. Sigh...while we pack and get ready for the new semester, do have some time to enjoy the remaining days left in your comfort zone. Here are but a few Mediacorp drama series (Yes, it's Singaporean) that I am currently hooked on to and highly recommend! I couldn't think more than sitting comfortably in a recliner, watching these drama series with a pot of tea and a box of tissues if you may. Haha....I find these drama totally awesome! Trully am addicted! Considering I am a fussy guy when it comes to drama and movies, trust me, these are probably one of the best dramas you have ever watched. I may exaggerate a bit, but do watch it for yourselves. But forewarn: You can be addicted. ;P

1. Perfect Cut (13 episodes) ~ it's a day-to-day life story of a cosmetic surgeon. A must watch for those who adores beauty and those who are interested bout cosmetic surgery. Not to mention, they are a lot of beautiful and hunky actresses and actors in it. ^^,




2. Perfect Cut 2 (13 episodes) ~ Yes! It's so good that there is a second season to it! Continue watching if you are hooked or can't have enough on the first one.




3. The Little Nyonya (34 episodes) ~ This is probably the best amongst all of them. It was recommended by a NUS friend and I am totally glued to it! It was extremely popular in Singapore when it was aired in Dec 2008. Another Mediacorp's classic! XD
