Project-κ 16: Pizza Italia @ Oakland Commercial Square

Just realized I was suppose to blog about this when I was rummaging my picture folders. These pictures had been stored in there since last CNY. LOL! And if you would realize, the pictures for this post is of much better quality cause I used my friend's DSLR that time! All rightee.... It was lunch during a CNY outing and someone recommended we go to Pizza Italia for some away-from-the-ordinary-lunch! Haha.... This place is situated at Oakland Commercial Square, very near to Columbia Asia Hospital.

The restaurant has an actual Italian cook! So you know that you are enjoying some authentic Italian food.... well, from the taste and hands of an Italian at least! :P

We ordered a couple of pizzas...and I'm so sorry...I couldn't remember the names as it was last January trip and my memory isn't that good! LOL! But these has no beef in them as most of you may have know already, that I can't take beef. :)

Regular pizzas were priced at RM 16 while large ones are RM 21. I usually order pizzas from either Pizza Hut or Domino's, so I can only compare Pizza Italia's pizzas to them. I find them to be fresh...like duh....they knead the dough only when orders were taken. The base was soft and not over-burnt. Just cheese pizzas tasted kinda plain to me....I don't know....maybe I'm used to getting chunky pieces of meats on my pizza that I don't fancy cheese-only-loaded pizzas. *shrugs* However, those with meat on them tasted pretty decent. Not great....but above average!

Pizza don't-know-what's-its-name-1 with seafood was pretty good.

Pizza don't-know-what's-its-name-2 just cheese tasted plain to me. :/

Chicken Lasagna was pretty good too! Nicely layered of cheese and meat makes this an enjoyable dish. :)

The restaurant's interior

Apparently Pizza Italia doesn't have a signboard. So, you'll need to look out for the red canopy or this cute little sign on its glass door.

Project-κ 15: Thosai @ Lingam's Curry House

Many people, Indians aside, especially Chinese, doesn't like thosai very much due to the sourish taste. But that's because they do not know what to order! Being a Malaysian, with abundant of Indian food around, thosai can be considered as one of my favourite breakfast. And in Seremban, we have just the place to get very good thosai! Located at Jalan Yam Tuan, very near to the Perodua showroom in town, Lingam's Curry House serves one of the best thosai in Seremban! An Indian friend told me of this place once when I was still in secondary school but never got to try it until this year. And you bet, once I've been there, I am totally hooked on it and make it a must-eat-place everytime I come back to Seremban and in time for breakfast! Lol!

I couldn't stand the hunger made by the delicious aroma emitted from the thosai's being prepared, so decided to get a few of vadai and munch on it first. =P
These vadai's are not bad, and if you get it freshly made, you'll be enjoying it hot and crunchy especially with some chutney dip!

One of the food I ordered - Thosai Rawa. Thin, crunchy and absolutely delicious! There were generous amount of onions, red and green condiments (peppers I think) in it! Eaten either with the spicy or white chutney is simply great! I totally recommend this to those of you who doesn't like thosai due to the sourish taste. Believe me, this is not at all sour! You'll like it.....guaranteed! RM1.20 per piece.

Another wonderful thosai - Thosai Ghee. Thin and crunchy just like thosai rawa, but minus the onions and pepper and with a distinct ghee (butter) smell and taste! This is a MUST order if you don't mind the calories (it is butter after all)! But mind you, this thosai isn't at all oily! I simply love this but I have to keep the fat in mind everytime I eat it! Haha.....but guilt aside, this is one heck of a thosai! A piece of this is priced at RM1.50.

There are of course many other food available like nasi lemak, the different kinds of roti's, more types of thosai's and rice in the afternoon. Though I didn't manage to try all of them, I'll definitely make a second, third and most probably more visit here again! XD

Project-κ 13: Curry Leaf Restaurant

Besides Top Curry House, there's also another great place to go for a decent Indian meal in Seremban. More popular among the Chinese, maybe because it was managed by an Indian-Chinese couple and has more Chinese-style dishes amongst its array of available choices. But don't get me wrong here, the spiciness and that "Indian taste" to their food are not compromised nonetheless. Which is good news for Indian food lovers like me! *wink wink*

Curry Leaf serves almost all types of Indian food imaginable: from banana leaf rice to nasi briyani; roti canai, thosai to naan bread; tandoori chicken to varuval mutton; different different types of vegetarian dishes; your regular teh tarik or teh halia to a refreshing lassi drink that comes in assorted flavours! Below: Mango lassi priced at RM3.50 per glass.

One of my all time favourite is their fried squid - perfectly deep fried in red flour batter, sprinkled with sesame seeds, with a squeeze of lime, topped with ringed onions and of course, curry leaves! It is very crispy with a slight sweet, spicy and sour lime juice flavour which makes this a perfect dish for anything you are eating especially rice.

Another notable dish is their fried chicken. Bursting with flavours, crispy batter on the outside and tender meat on the inside! Tell me......who doesn't like fried stuff?? LOL!

At RM5.00, you get to enjoy their banana leaf rice. Comes with 8 vegetarian side dishes (yes guys, you read that right....8 side dishes!) - pumpkin, varuval potatoes, brinjals, long beans, sambal tofu, cabbage, bittergourd just to name a few; papadams; a choice of hot fish, chicken or dhall curry, this is one heck of an economy rice! Taste wise, it is definitely your above average type of banana leaf set! Just nice for the Chinese palate and tastebuds.

Their naan bread also deserves some limelight too. I've ordered a garlic naan here. Naan is a healthier version of bread as it is baked in a terracota clay oven and not fried - ideal for weight watchers. Haha.... It is non-oily, topped with a generous amount of chopped garlics and and has a strong buttery taste that can still be tasted even if you dip it in your choice of curries! I totally enjoyed this - very much!

Project-κ 9: Satay @ Medan Selera Permai (Permai Food Court)

Satay.......
You can find these almost every food court you go.........
It is the most..............convenient food available?? Meat on sticks....how more convenient do you want? Hahaha.... Heck, it's delicious, cheap, and it is our Malaysian national food! Besides nasi lemak, and roti canai, and char kway teow, and etc....etc..... LOL!

But where to get good satays????? Well, yeah....satay taste almost the same everywhere right? All I know is that satay is famous in Kajang. Why? I don't know lah......I heard that it's because there are a lot of variety (got ostrich, rabbit and even crocodile meat!)....taste wise? Is just so-so only lar. But that's a different story,  Project-κ is about food in Seremban, so let's start.

I stumbled on this satay stall almost accidentally. Was supposed to have some Chinese food but my cravings were acting up, so I decided to try the satays here at Medan Selera (Taman) Permai.

The stall is manned by a Malay woman, occasionally with her husband. Located at the very end of the food court, right at the corner near the car park.

RM0.50 per stick for chicken meat, and RM0.60 each for both beef and mutton satay.

I don't dare to say this is the best satay in Seremban, but I dare say that it is really really good. Usually, you'll get lots of fat and skin in between the meat of a satay right? But these satays have very little fat/skin in them. Besides, the meat is very tender and succulent! It is downright sweet and flavourful even without the peanut sauce. Oh.......talking about the peanut sauce.....I don't know how to describe it but I tell you, it's good. Normal peanut sauce.....but better! The satay is cooked just right. With very little "burnt marks" which makes it still juicy in the inside! The mutton satay does not have the "sow" smell (strong mutton smell) too. I may sound like I'm exaggerating, but you are your own best judge, so try it!

Project-κ 6: Sin Yee Kee Beef Noodle @ Pasar Besar Seremban

Sin Yee Kee beef noodle......This place needs no introduction. It has been running for more than 60 years already!!! Any Serembanian will know this place by heart. Too bad I don't eat beef due to religious reasons, if not, I'll definitely write a personal account on it! But not to worry......many other food bloggers had had review on Sin Yee Kee beef noodle, including The Star, Precious pea and feedmelah.com. You don't need another one to describe how good it is, do you?

But honestly, it IS good! Very very good. I had had the chance to taste it when I was very young, when I didn't have to oblige all things religious. Back then, 15 years ago, my dad and grandpa used to be their number 1 fan and still is till today! I can still remember the taste of the beef noodle. It gives such an impact that till date, it's still fresh in my mind. I can literally taste it!

The gravy was simply haven, laden with peanuts and sesame seeds. The beef slices were perfect to the taste and texture. You'll love it once you sample it. Trust me. ;)

Is it really that good??? I am not exaggerating. You've got to try it yourself to know it! 60 years of history can't go wrong, can it?

Sin Yee Kee beef noodle has 2 other more modern, cleaner and comfortable shops somewhere in Seremban town and Kemayan Square respectively. Check out this blogger's post for the shops review: http://xes.cx/?p=1713

There are no pork served. But I am not sure if it's halal or not. By the way, a bowl of dry beef noodle costs RM4.00, RM5.00 and RM6.00 for small, medium and large portion respectively. There are other types of noodles as well, with or without soup.

The stall number is 748. Please take note that stall 791 and 794 are their store rooms. ENJOY!!! :)

Project-κ 5: Rojak @ Pasar Besar Seremban

I was quite full when I finished both Tow Kee Hakka and Hioong Kee cuttlefish noodles. But since Mr. Hioong Kee sort of like hinted to me and strongly recommended for this to be my next stop, I happily obliged. Talk about killing 3 birds with one stone! LOL! I headed over to the Rojak stall in the same foodcourt of Seremban market, behind Hioong Kee cuttlefish noodle.

If you go Google-ing on food in Seremban, I think this rojak stall was patroned and recommended by other food bloggers too. It is stall 785, hidden at a corner and was managed by a middle aged woman.

The rojak served here is kind of special, to be honest! It is not your usual mamak rojak. I don't know if it was a special recipe of the owner or can it be called Chinese rojak cause it is truly different! Haha.... Instead of the spicy-sweet peanut sauce which is commonly found in mamak stalls, the gravy of the rojak here is sweet-sour with tad hint of spicyness and peanut in it. I have never tasted such rojak before. And it is very good!

There was shreded sar kot (turnips), cucumber, spiced potato cubes, taugeh (beansprouts), tofu (beancurd) and crsipy fried kueh. RM3.00 per plate, you can either choose your rojak with or without noodles in it. Seen here is rojak without noodles. Note: There weren't any eggs served.

The rojak stall opens everyday except Tuesday from 9.30 am till everything is being sold off, so closing time is not fixed.

Project-κ 2: Tau Foo Fa @ Sam Kok Tei

Tau Foo Fa!!! My favourite dessert!!! And where to go for a G-R-E-A-T bowl of Tau Foo Fa when you are in Seremban??? Just head to Sam Kok Tei (Triangle Square) in Jalan Yam Tuan for one of the best Tau Foo Fa in town.

Ok....the Tau Foo Fa in my photo looks like any other ordinary Tau Foo Fa found anywhere....but believe me, this is one of the smoothest and silkiest Tau Foo Fa that you had ever tasted!! And did I mentioned it is so smooth that it just glides on your tongue, into your throat and straight down to your stomach?! It's so soft that when I accidentally dropped a little on the table, it goes splat like raindrops! LOL! For only RM 1.20 a bowl, this is one dessert that you must NOT miss!

It is sold by an old couple. Their stall is right next to a bus stop along Jalan Yam Tuan. Right opposite Domino's Pizza. Besides Tau Foo Fa, they also sell Soya bean, herbal tea, Cincau and longan drink. If you pack your Tau Foo Fa, it'll be more expensive though. RM 1.30 per packet. Maybe they charge extra for the plastic container and spoon they provide... LOL!

Just look out for this humble stall and that little piece of yellow banner saying "Ben Curd"...yeah I know...Maybe the auntie and uncle didn't realise the mistake and should be written as Beancurd.....but oh well, what the heck!

This stall opens everyday except Monday and Tuesday; from 6pm till late. Occasionally, they will shift location and will not always be at the bus stop. The uncle told me he'll set up his stall near the car park sometimes but usually he'll be in his favourite spot.

PS: There's another stall selling Prawn Noodles in Sam Kok Tei which I find it to be quite tasty. Too bad it's not open yesterday. Hmm....Oh well, maybe next time. ;)

Project-κ 1: Top Curry House

Woohoo! On 23/09/09 was officially the launching of my first Project-κ!! Initially this was not on yesterday's to-do list. But because I couldn't get a room for a planned Karaoke session with my friends, I decided to bring them for lunch at one of the best Indian restaurant in town, Top Curry House! This restaurant has been there for decades it seems, and is usually packed to the brim at lunch hours. Serving banana leave rice is what they are famous for.

Seen here is an array of dishes served in the restaurant. They've got all sorts of meat from chicken to fish to mutton. All cooked in different manner: Varuval (dry), Curry, Fried, whatever! Of course, being an Indian restaurant, there won't be any beef.

We ordered banana leave rice for each of us which comes with a bowl of rice (which you can top up at no extra cost), papadams, ladleful of gravy (choose from fish curry, chicken curry, dhal curry and a vegetable gravy), 4 types of vegetables (seen here are pumpkin, beans with four angled beans, beansprout and pineapple with cucumber), rasam (sourish soup) and if you are lucky (usually on Fridays), they'll give you desserts of watermelon or payasam (sweet milk dessert with sago and condiments). They will cook different types of vegetable everyday. I remember they serve good varuval potatoes at one of those days. It depends on your luck really....sometimes you come and you'll see cabbages instead, while on other days they will serve bayam. Oh! And you can take as MUCH vegetable as you want! You can practically pour everything onto you leave but.....it wouldn't look nice lah......courtesy mah....Hahaha!!

Each set of banana rice costs RM 3.50. Pretty cheap I'll say. Oh and you can get pickles and dried chillies if only you ask from the waiters. Bare in mind that, they have rooms which are air-conditioned and if you are to dine there, the price of your banana leave rice will cost 50 cents more!

We also ordered 2 plates of mutton. Each plate costs RM 5.00. I personally love their Varuval Chicken, but because due to some request from my co-diners, I ordered mutton instead. While their varuval chicken was highly recommended, their mutton is pretty good too. It's soft enough to be torn apart easily and not so strong with the 'mutton smell' (you know....the smell you get when you eat old, matured goats) and the taste of the curry was perfect! Thick and spicy yet subtle enough for a Chinese diner like my friends. (PS: I have a higher tolerance for spiciness ok! LOL!) Same goes with the curry/gravy that you 'bathe' your rice with.....Haha..... It's just perfect with the right consistency, thickness and spiciness!

Top Curry House also sells various types of Indian sweets like Coconut Candy, Milk Candy and laddu. Not to mention some kacang putih, murukku and vadai. I find that the pricing for their sweets are pretty expensive. My Indian friends would recommend me to go to another shop in Seremban's Indian Street where sweets there are much cheaper.

Top Curry House opens everyday serving both lunch and dinner. Lunch usually starts at 11.30am onwards and can drag on until they've completely sold out of their food usually around 2.30pm. While for dinner, there won't be much dishes left for a decent banana leave rice set....so resort in typical Chapattis, Naans or roti canai instead.

Top Curry House is situated in
No 152, Jalan Dato Bandar Tunggal,
70000, Seremban,
 Negeri Sembilan.
Phone no: 06-76722294
Same road with Hotel Milo, turn right after you pass by Seng Heng Electrical shop. :)
